Fergus graduated from Edinburgh University with an M.A. in History of Art and English Literature in 1995. His first career was in finance, advising on mergers & acquisitions at UBS Warburg and Credit Suisse for FTSE 100 and mid-market companies, predominantly in the consumer, retail and luxury goods sectors. In 2004 he moved into private equity, leading the management buy outs of several retail & consumer companies including the premium paint brand Farrow & Ball, generating exceptional shareholder returns of over 5x their investment. Fergus left the finance industry in 2008 to follow his life-long passion for art, forming an independent dealership in the same year with the encouragement of his friend and mentor Johnny van Haeften. He lives in London with his wife and their three children.
